Suggested age range: 13-14yrs
DRILL & TURNOUT:
- Positions of Attention, Stand Easy and Stand at Ease.
- Turnings at the halt.
- Saluting to the front.
- Marching and halting in quick time.
- Forming up in three ranks and getting on parade.
- Open and close order.
- Dismissing and falling out.
- Wheeling in quick time.
- Saluting on the march, eyes right and left.
- ACF Organisation at County level.
SHOOTING & SKILL AT ARMS:
- Revise Air Rifle or .22 Rifle (No 8)
- General description, safety and the sight system.
- Stripping, assembly and cleaning.
- Magazine filling, sight setting, load, unload, make safe and safe
handling.
- Holding and aiming in the prone position.
- Firing in the prone position.
- Firing drills.
- Practice firing a shot and firing drills.
- Mechanisms of a weapon and possible stoppages.
- Marksmanship principles.
- The Air Rifle or .22 Rifle grouping practices.
MAP AND COMPASS:
- Reliability of a map and marginal information.
- Grid system and six figure grid references.
- Conventional signs.
- Map scales and measuring distances.
- North points.
- Setting a map by landmarks.
- Navigation practice using OS maps.
FIELDCRAFT:
- Revision of packing 58 pattern equipment and camouflage and concealment.
- Movement with and without a rifle. Elementary obstacle crossing.
Crossing obstacles.
- Introduction to night work.
- Elementary night movement.
- Night observation.
- Identifying sounds at night.
- Safety precautions at night.
- Duties of a sentry.
- Campcraft.
FIRST AID:
- Initial assessment and priorities of treatment.
- Managing an unconscious casualty.
- Recovery position.
- Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
- Treatment of wounds, bleeding and shock.
- Recognition of sprains, strains, dislocations and broken limbs.
- Treatment of minor conditions; Blisters, cuts, minor burns, scalds,
headaches, insect bites and sunburn.
EXPEDITION TRAINING:
- Campcraft.
- Introduction to tents, clothing and other equipment used during an
expedition.
- Pitching tents and camp cooking.
PHYSICAL RECREATION:
- Participate in an activity in the handbook for a minimum period,
attempting to gain standards where appropriate.
CADET IN THE COMMUNITY:
- Introduction to citizenship.
- Introduction to the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme by the county D of E
officer.
- Completion of three domestic tasks within the detachment while in
training.
